When you think of fun wintertime activities in the city, what’s one of the first things that you think of? Probably not dodging slush puddles and fighting horrible traffic.  Nope.  I bet it’s ice skating!  After visiting the iconic McCormick Tribune Ice Rink, I had a new-found love for ice skating, but the crowds and lines really got on my nerves.  So after heading to Sport’s Authority for my very own pair of skates, so that I could avoid rental lines, I headed out to find alternative places to perfect my camel spins and butterfly jumps. Calling all gamers: Rock out to Rock Band at Lincoln Hall for charity (Wed. 12/15)

How awesome would it be to play Rock Band in a great venue like Lincoln Hall? Well here’s your chance! Chicago Loot Drop is giving you the opportunity to watch, and even perform, at Lincoln Hall.  All in the name of charity.  Local band, I Fight Dragons will be judging and there’s even a raffle!  Band signups close at 5pm tonight, but if you miss it, don’t worry. You can still be a spectator!  The proceeds go to Child’s Play Charity and the goal is to raise funds to buy toys and games for children in hospitals. Ring in the new year with a little luck of the Irish and a lot of booze and food of the Irish. The Irish Oak, part traditional pub, part Wrigleyville party stop, is hosting their own New Years eve bash by offering $70 packages of beer, wine, and call drinks, plus classic Emerald Isle fare like Shepard’s Pie, Fish N’ Chips, and corned beef among other selections. (Not to mention, “traditional Irish cake throwing.” We don’t know exactly what that entails but frankly they had us at “cake throwing”.)

Chicago Remembers Pearl Harbor at Navy Pier today 11am

The City of Chicago will host, Chicago Remembers Pearl Harbor, at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2010, east end of Navy Pier. This years’ date marks the 69th Anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Naval Installation at Pearl Harbor. On this day too, the City of Chicago will honor those who lost their lives and salutes the bravery of all who fought in the face of extraordinary odds that Sunday morning. The commemoration will include a Bell Ringing Ceremony in remembrance of the seven Illinois Pearl Harbor victims who died and remain on the USS Arizona. Special invited guests include the Illinois and Chicago chapters of Pearl Harbor Survivors.
