Free Thanksgiving Dinner at River Shannon and The Lodge tavern

File:The First Thanksgiving cph.3g04961.jpg

Thursday, November 25th
5pm-The Lodge Tavern
7pm-River Shannon

What’s better than the holidays? Avoiding it with your family (let’s be honest). Add free food, some drinks, and the absence of Uncle Morty’s toupee and you’ve got this tasty, coma-inducing event from The Lodge Tavern and River Shannon. The purchase of one beverage gets you a complimentary turkey dinner with all the trimmings. No thawing, gutting, stuffing, or sawing required. Whether you can’t or just don’t want to spend Turkey day at Aunt Mildred’s, take the pressure off yourself and put the fire department at ease by joining the Rush and Division gang for some free Thanksgiving fare. (Or bring the fam along! Let’s face it, your mom could use the drinks.)

River Shannon will open on Thanksgiving at 7pm and close at 2am, and The Lodge Tavern will open at 5pm and close at 4am.

Volcanoes! Oil Spills! Earthquakes!  Floods! Tea Parties! The Jersey Shore!  Disaster certainly struck in 2010.  What does it all mean?  What should we do?  If only someone would intervene and let us know just what needs doing, like Moses did!

Continuing a Skybox tradition, now in its fifth year, *Creepy Hug presents its eleventh original sketch comedy revue, The 2010 Commandments: The Year in Revue.  The comedy team that formed in 2003 will help usher in new commandments as we usher out this past year.  But don’t worry, those first ten that Moses originally brought down still apply, so you only have 2,000 new commandments to remember!  Also, they should be downloadable to your iPad, or other PC tablet, as long as Moses can get decent reception on Mt. Sinai.  › Continue reading

INDIE INCUBATOR XI- A Festival of Chicago’s Best Short Films (11/30/10)

Nov ’10

8:00 PM

Short films will fill the 10 foot screen and all the plasmas in the popular night spot, The Original Mother’s, for the eleventh incarnation of Indie Incubator Film Fest on Tuesday, November 30, 2010. There isn’t a bad seat in the house, and management even breaks out the couches and free popcorn, too. These shorts are anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes in length, and genres run the gamut from comedy to horror, with everything in between. It is never boring, with energetic hosts and great films, the crowd is constantly entertained.

Now in its fifth year, Indie Incubator has gained credibility, momentum and a distinct voice in the Chicago area independent film scene. The fest has prided itself as the best alternate venue outside of the traditional festival circuit for local filmmakers work to get shown and get noticed. They have yet to charge a single film maker ANY submission fee! “Submission fees are a racket,” says Matt Kubinski, creator of the fest. “Why should independent filmmakers be charged just to submit their film for the possibility of being shown at these fests? Don’t films already cost enough to make?” › Continue reading
