Chicago Moth StorySLAM: Martyr’s (Oct 27) 8pm

Oct ’09
27
8:00 PM

Martyr’s is having a slam event tonight, and if you think slam is only limited to poetry, I suggest you check this out.  The theme of the night is “Firsts”, and there will be 10 local authors on hand to explain their idea of the theme.  Martyr’s is a pretty intimate place, and what would seem like an ideal for something like this.

It’s really an open mike event, hosted by Moth, a New York city based nonprofit literary agency, and the audience eventually determines who the winner is.  Tickets are only $7, so price really shouldn’t be an issue.  There will be other events like this on the last Tuesday of each month at Martyr’s, so come get your slam on.

Two Brothers Brewing Company and Osteria Via Strato are teaming up on Wednesday, October 28, for a “Swig and Pig Brewmasters Dinner”.  The idea is to pair different pork dishes with different local beers, and the menu looks like it’s going to provide for some tasty choices.   The meals themselves will be seasonally driven and the food is provided by Slagel Farms, who oversee the entire process of their products.  Dinner will be $60 (sorry, tax and tip is not included) per person, but one glimpse at the link below will show you why.

The World’s Largest Taffy Apple Party: Augustino’s Rock and Roll Deli (Oct 27) 2pm-5pm

Oct ’09
27
2:00 PM

This is a big as it sounds.  Better yet, it’s for charity.

Augustino’s Rock and Roll Deli (233 S. Wacker) is going to have the world’s largest taffy apple buffet… ever.  Proceeds from each apple go to Easter Seals’ Community OneSource and Operation Employ Veterans, which benefits programs that help meet the emotional, medical, social and employment needs of our veterans.

Located in the Willis Tower, Augustino’s will have over 100 different toppings for the apples.  There is nothing quite like mixing candy, the former Sears Tower, and charity.  Only $5 to get in.
