For the last two years, Vaudezilla has made a major impact on the Chicago burlesque scene with its theatrically-inspired stage shows.  Hot ‘n’ Heavy Burlesque has established itself as the go-to source for hard-rockin’, horror-themed burlesque.  This Halloween, watch the inmates take over the asylum as these two powerhouses team up to bring you a jam-packed night of tassels and terror.

We’re taking over Greenhouse Theater and turning it into THE spot for all your Halloween festivities.  Dress up in your best costume and enjoy two fully-loaded burlesque shows, a cash bar, a costume contest, and all kinds of extra spooky fun.

Hot ‘n’ Heavy kicks things off at 11pm with performances by Viva La Muerte, Kyle Greer, Faustina von Feist, Juju Minxxx, Scarlett DeVille, Miss Ellie Noise, Cruel Valentine, and Mai Atari.

“Public Access Channel 45 is in trouble. If they don’t raise enough money at their pledge drive, they’re finished. Is the TV expert too inexperienced to help? Is the Stage Manager too flustered? And who is that clown, anyway? If you “Shtick With Us,” you’ll find out all the answers in this raucous, vaudeville-inspired burlesque show from Chicago’s Vaudezilla Productions.”

World’s Fair Simulation at the MSI (Sat. 12/5 & Sun. 12/6)

Dec ’09Dec
56

Maybe it’s too early for the holiday craze to fully kick in, or maybe you’re already sick of it. The Museum of Science and Industry is offering a pretty sweet two day event for those ready to take a break from jingle bells.

On December 5th and 6th from 2-3:30 p.m. the MSI will present a virtual simulation tour of the 1893 World’s Fair (aka the Columbian Exposition or “The White City”, or the event that debuted the world’s first ferris wheel, take your pick).  Fun fact: the virtual tour will take place in the only exisiting building from the Exposition–The Museum itself!

This event is back by popular demand, so you know it will be pretty cool (but it’s offering more than before this time around). Plus, tickets the to tour include general admission to the museum, so you can relive a middle school field trip and hit some other exhibits too. Two birds, one stone.

You can call for tickets at (773) 684-1414

$15 for members, $30 for non-members
Located in the Museum of Science and Industry

If you love the classic Julie Andrews’ film, The Sound of Music, then you will ADORE the Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music at the Music Box Theatre on Southport Ave.  The show began in the UK in 1999 and has since become a worldwide favorite, playing to packed houses every year around the holidays.  Prep those golden pipes with a vocal warm-up at the start of the show, and then sing your heart out for the rest of the movie, with subtitles provided so you don’t miss a beat.   The biggest fans typically show up in costume, and a fancy-dress competition is held in which all those participating are invited on stage for a costume contest.  After such a fun night, you’re sure to leave the theatre skipping, smiling, and singing!

The Great Jellybean Taste Test at The Greenhouse Theater Center (Oct. 17 – 31)

Local author and playwright Francine B. Ivey brought her book The Great Jellybean Taste Test to the stage on Thursday at The Greenhouse Theater Center in Lincoln Park. This fun-filled comedy is a quirky tale about one woman’s search for love, her romantic failures along the way, and the revelation that the men she meets are much like the treats she eats! (Say that three times fast.) Throughout her journey of self-discovery, front woman Georgia realizes that of all things, jellybean combinations actually help her to identify and explain her relationship blunders.  The contemporary musical comedy includes, but is not limited to, improvisation, country music, and stand-up comedy!

The Great Jellybean Taste Test will run at The Greenhouse Theater Center until October 31st on Thursdays, Friday and Saturdays at 8 p.m, and Sundays at 3 p.m. The price of admission is $25.
