(Updated) ESPN Zone Is Looking for Chicago’s Finest Couch Potatoes (Enter by 12/9; Event is 1/1)

ESPN Zone (43 E. Ohio St.) began taking entries today for its eighth annual Ultimate Couch Potato competition, scheduled for Jan. 1, 2010. In a nut shell, four sports fanatics from the Chicagoland will square off in a competitive sitting competition on New Year’s Day to see who can watch the most continuous hours of televised sports (bathroom breaks only once every eight hours and no sleeping allowed). It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown (Tue. 10/ 27) 7pm

I don’t have too many Halloween traditions, but the one that I religiously follow, year after year, is my annual viewing of It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. I usually try to time it so I’m carving my pumpkin while this classic show is playing in the background.

This year is no different. I’ll be rushing to my local pumpkin patch Dominick’s to snatch up one of the last remaining, oddly shaped, pumpkins on Tuesday night before the show starts. Then speeding home to carve my masterpiece pumpkin and pray for Linus.
