Although I really wish I was, I am just not a reader. This is, at long last, not a huge problem. The Book Cellar in Lincoln Square has a bazillion events for the book enthusiast or wannabe-book enthusiast, like myself. Among the events, the Essay Fiesta stood out to me.

Chicago Moth StorySLAM: Martyr’s (Oct 27) 8pm
| Oct ’09 |

| 8:00 PM |
Martyr’s is having a slam event tonight, and if you think slam is only limited to poetry, I suggest you check this out. The theme of the night is “Firsts”, and there will be 10 local authors on hand to explain their idea of the theme. Martyr’s is a pretty intimate place, and what would seem like an ideal for something like this.
It’s really an open mike event, hosted by Moth, a New York city based nonprofit literary agency, and the audience eventually determines who the winner is. Tickets are only $7, so price really shouldn’t be an issue. There will be other events like this on the last Tuesday of each month at Martyr’s, so come get your slam on.
